Brand History
The Tata Story
Tata Motors was founded in 1945 as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), part of India's Tata Group, initially building locomotives and then commercial vehicles in collaboration with Daimler-Benz from 1954. It became India's dominant truck maker before entering passenger cars in the 1990s with the Indica, and drew global attention with the ultra-low-cost Nano in 2008. That same year Tata acquired Jaguar Land Rover from Ford, transforming it into a global automotive group.
