Origins

The Y10 of 1985 replaced the A112 with something deliberately fashionable: a city car styled like nothing else, its abruptly vertical, black-finished tailgate turning a packaging trick into a signature. Underneath sat Fiat's fresh FIRE engine and, in time, four-wheel-drive and turbo variants; inside, velour and equipment aimed at buyers who considered small cars a style statement rather than a penance — the premium-city-car idea, years before rivals named it. Badging told the marque's endgame: Autobianchi in Italy, Lancia Y10 abroad, and when production ended in 1995 the succeeding Lancia Y dropped the old name entirely, closing Autobianchi after four decades. The Y10 thus ended the story on-brand — clever, chic, slightly ahead of the fashion it helped create.
