Origins

The CS75 arrived in 2014 into the single most competitive part of the Chinese market: the compact crossover, where domestic brands were finally beating the joint ventures on value. It was a straightforward front-wheel-drive five-door SUV, roomier and better equipped than the imported rivals it undercut, and it sold in numbers that changed Changan's standing overnight.

Design and engineering

The second act was more significant. The CS75 Plus, launched in 2019, brought a far more assertive design, a much better interior and turbocharged Blue Whale engines developed in-house, and became one of the best-selling SUVs in China outright. Plug-in hybrid versions followed, using Changan's own hybrid system.

In production

The CS75 has also been one of the company's main export products, sold across Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa, often as the first Changan a market has seen. Along with Great Wall's Haval H6 and Geely's Boyue, it belongs to the group of Chinese crossovers that ended the assumption that a domestic brand meant a compromised car.
