Origins

The E07 of 2024 was Deepal's segment experiment: a full-size electric crossover whose powered rear bulkhead and convertible cargo bay let it transform between SUV and open-bed pickup — Changan's engineers productionising the Cybertruck-adjacent versatility question at mainstream Chinese prices. Range-extended options served touring buyers; the configurable body served marketing at least as well as utility. Sales proved the concept niche rather than wave, but the E07's willingness to manufacture an odd idea at scale demonstrated the industry's new metabolism — segment hypotheses tested in production rather than focus groups, at speeds the global establishment could neither match nor quite believe. The experiment's answer mattered less than the speed of the asking.
