The Q6 e-tron is the first Audi built on PPE, the Premium Platform Electric developed jointly with Porsche and shared with the electric Macan. Its significance is architectural rather than stylistic: an 800-volt system that supports very high charging rates, a battery structured around fewer, larger modules, and a rear-motor layout as standard with a second motor at the front for quattro versions.

Just as important is the E3 electronic architecture that debuted with it, consolidating dozens of separate control units into a handful of domain computers and running an Android-based infotainment system, with an optional passenger-side display. Audi had been criticised for software delays across the group for years, and this car was the answer.

It is built at Ingolstadt on a line running alongside combustion models, and in Changchun with FAW for the Chinese market. A lower-roofed Sportback body accompanies the standard SUV, and performance SQ6 versions sit above.
