Origins
Higer's Longwei of 2013 entered the pickup market as segment liberalisation beckoned: a double-cab workhorse aimed at the commercial buyers the company's bus clients already resembled. Against Great Wall's dominance and the truck majors' entries, the bus maker's pickup remained peripheral, and the experiment wound down as Higer concentrated on its electrifying core business. The Longwei's interest is structural: evidence of how China's boom years let even specialised manufacturers attempt full-line dreams — and how the market's maturation retired those dreams efficiently, returning each builder to what it did best. Every builder tried a pickup that decade; the wisdom was in how quickly they stopped. The pickups went quietly; the buses the company returned to now electrify three continents' routes.
