Origins

King Long's Kaige of 2013 contested the light van-MPV borderland: a people-and-parcels machine for small business, entering the segment Wuling's economics defined. The bus giant's manufacturing muscle met the market's brutal price floors; volumes stayed secondary to the coach business that carried the company's name onto highways worldwide. The Kaige's place in the record is contextual — the endless adjacent-segment probing of China's boom, when every manufacturer's capacity sought every niche — before electrification redirected King Long's engineering toward the transit contracts that became its global signature. Against Wuling's arithmetic, participation itself was the achievement. Its production years bracket the moment when even giants learned which price floors were not worth standing on.
