Origins
The LEVC TX of 2017 electrified an icon without breaking its silhouette: the London Taxi Company, rescued by Geely and renamed, built a new Coventry plant to produce a range-extended electric black cab — batteries for the city's air, a small petrol generator for shift-length certainty, and the turning circle and accessibility the Conditions of Fitness demand. Cabbies grumbled at prices and learned to love fuel savings; thousands now work London and export cities from Paris to Tokyo. The TX proved a template argument: heritage vehicles could electrify on their own terms, regulation could drive engineering, and a Chinese-owned British factory could productionise both. The knowledge that Hackney carriages breathe easier is incidental poetry.
