01

Origins

The Air proved Lucid could engineer an electric car more efficiently than most established manufacturers. The Gravity, which entered production in 2024, is the attempt to sell that engineering to a much larger audience, because a large luxury saloon is a shrinking segment in the United States and a three-row SUV is not.

Design and engineering

It uses the same fundamental hardware: compact in-house motors, a 900-volt architecture allowing very high charging rates, and packaging that turns the space saved by small drive units into cabin and luggage volume. The front boot is large enough that Lucid designed it to be sat on. Seven seats are available, and the drag coefficient is unusually low for a vehicle of that height, which is where a good deal of its range comes from.

In production

It also arrives with the Tesla-style charging connector fitted as standard rather than as an adapter, reflecting how quickly that standard was adopted across the American industry. Built alongside the Air at Casa Grande and styled under Derek Jenkins, it is the model on which Lucid's case for being a volume manufacturer rather than a specialist rests.

The facts that define it.
