Origins

The D60 of 2019 brought Maxus's C2B configurator strategy to the mid-size crossover mainstream: five-to-seven-seat flexibility, sharp styling and petrol-turbo power, with online customisation continuing SAIC's retail experimentation. It competed domestically against the crowded middle while feeding right-hand-drive export markets that valued space-per-yuan. The D60's role was consolidation — extending the van brand's passenger credibility established by the D90 — as Maxus's identity settled into practical value across body styles. History will file it among the competent multitude of China's crossover boom; within SAIC's portfolio it marked Maxus's maturation into a full-spectrum volume marque. Competence at scale, the Chinese industry's great lesson, needs no headlines to compound. The configurator's lessons outlived the marketing campaign, resurfacing across SAIC's later retail platforms.
