Origins
The Viewt of 1993 became Mitsuoka's defining product: Nissan's March/Micra re-bodied as a affectionate miniature of the Jaguar Mark 2 — upright chrome grille, quad lamps, sweeping rear haunches — with the donor's reliability, economy and dimensions intact beneath the theatre. Japan adored it: taxi companies bought fleets for charm, private buyers for individuality, and production continued across three March generations for nearly three decades, comfortably Mitsuoka's best-seller. The British original's custodians reportedly viewed it with amused tolerance. The Viewt's success proved the company's thesis at scale — that car buyers would pay meaningfully for narrative and nostalgia over metal — anticipating by decades the industry's discovery of the same truth via retro design studios.
