Origins
The Swift name first appeared in 1984 on a version of the Suzuki Cultus, a small hatchback that spent most of its life wearing other companies' badges. It was sold as the Chevrolet Sprint and the Geo Metro in North America, the Holden Barina in Australia and the Subaru Justy in parts of Europe, which made it widely driven and almost entirely anonymous. It was cheap, frugal and not much else.
