Origins

Having proved it could build a saloon, Xiaomi went after the segment where the money is. The YU7, launched in June 2025 from a second Beijing plant, is a mid-size five-door coupe SUV on the same 800-volt electric architecture as the SU7, offered with a single rear motor or dual motors and all-wheel drive, with Sawyer Li again leading the design.

Design and engineering

It shares the SU7's approach rather than just its parts: heavy integration with Xiaomi's phone and smart-home ecosystem, a strong emphasis on in-house motor and battery engineering, and a launch handled like a consumer electronics event. The reception matched, with order volumes at announcement that again outran the company's ability to build cars.

In production

Its significance is strategic. The SU7 could have been a novelty; a second model, in the body style Chinese buyers actually want most, is a company. The YU7 put Xiaomi directly against the Tesla Model Y and the Li Auto and Nio SUVs that dominate the premium electric market at home.
