Origins
The Domy X7 of 2016 came from Zotye's expansionist peak: a mid-size crossover under the new Damai/Domy sub-brand, styling again orbiting European references, value pricing chasing the SUV boom's long tail. The group's multi-brand proliferation — badges multiplying faster than engineering budgets — exemplified the sector's froth phase. Contraction followed brutally: China's 2018-19 downturn exposed Zotye's fundamentals, and by decade's end the group had collapsed into restructuring, its brands dormant, its plants seeking new purposes. The X7 documents the moment before — ambition's last full catalogue — and the pattern China's consolidation would repeat across dozens of similar aspirants: expansion as strategy, until arithmetic resumed. The arithmetic, as always, resumed without appeal.
