Origins

Gonow of Zhejiang — pickup-and-van specialist of the private-manufacturer wave — launched the Aoosed GX5 in 2010 as its SUV statement: a compact crossover with value pricing and styling in the era's borrowed idiom, chasing the segment every Chinese maker had to contest. GAC's later majority stake folded Gonow into the giant's orbit before the brand faded from passenger markets. The GX5 documents the middle tier of China's SUV gold rush — the dozens of provincial manufacturers whose entries briefly mattered, sold adequately, and dissolved into consolidation — leaving behind photographs, registration statistics, and lessons absorbed by the survivors. The consolidation was already scheduled; nobody had told the products. Its production span maps the exact window when a provincial builder could still reach the national segment unaided.
