Origins

The Musso name — SsangYong's long-serving pickup line, Korea's default working truck — entered the electric era in 2025 under KGM's badge: a battery-electric pickup built on the company's EV platform development with LFP cells, aimed at tradespeople and the lifestyle market that had sustained diesel Mussos for decades. Targeting practicality over spectacle — payload, running costs, fleet economics — it positioned KGM early in a segment the global giants approached cautiously. For a company twice through receivership, leading Korea into electric pickups represented characteristic pragmatism: find the niche the chaebol neglect, price it keenly, and survive another cycle. The Musso EV is that strategy's newest, quietest expression. If the gamble lands, KGM will have beaten far larger rivals to a segment they all saw coming.
