Landwind CV9

01

Origins

The CV9 of 2006 was Landwind's MPV: a compact people-carrier continuing the Jiangling-group brand's export experiment, and continuing its European education — crash testing again produced dismal headline results, reinforcing the reputation its X6 had established and effectively ending the marque's Western ambitions. At home the CV9 served budget family demand adequately through its production run. The pattern held significance beyond one brand: Landwind's bruising functioned as the industry's vaccine, hastening the structural-engineering investments that transformed Chinese exports within a decade. The CV9 is thus remembered less as a car than as a data point in the steepest quality learning curve the industry has recorded. The vaccine metaphor is apt: painful, public, and ultimately protective.
