Origins

The X2 of 2017 entered the subcompact crossover class — China's volume heartland — with fashionable creases, budget pricing and the Jiangling group's engineering: a conventional competitor in the market's most contested space. It arrived as the brand's litigation over the X7's Evoque resemblance moved through Beijing's courts, publicity that shadowed every Landwind launch of the period. The X2 itself offered no controversy and gathered no headlines, selling modestly against domestic giants. Its place in the record is contextual: the ordinary product of a brand about to be legally extraordinary — and evidence that beneath the copycat storm, Landwind's day job remained unremarkable value engineering. Ordinariness, for once, was the notable feature.
