Origins

Landwind's X6 of 2001 — a body-on-frame SUV on licensed Isuzu bones from the Jiangling group — earned history's attention in 2005 as among the first Chinese passenger vehicles exported to Western Europe: Dutch sales began, and a German ADAC crash test produced results so catastrophic they became global news, setting the 'Chinese cars are dangerous' narrative the industry would spend fifteen years demolishing. Domestic sales continued regardless; the price argument remained persuasive at home. The X6's dual legacy endures: pioneer and warning simultaneously — the vehicle that opened Europe's door, demonstrated the homologation gulf, and inadvertently taught China's exporters the lesson their later five-star successors monetised. Few single crash tests have altered an industry's trajectory so thoroughly.
