Origins
BMW bought Rover in 1994, sold most of it in 2000, and kept one thing: the Mini name. The car it launched in 2001 was a deliberate reinterpretation rather than a revival. Front-wheel drive and a transverse four, as before, but larger in every dimension, close to twice the weight, far safer, and built to a premium standard the original never attempted.
