Origins
The Unimog 405 series of 2000 — the UGN 'Geräteträger' — renewed the implement-carrying core of the marque for the twenty-first century: hydrostatic-option drivelines, VarioPilot switchable steering and mounting systems engineered for the mowers, blowers and sweepers of municipal Europe. Airports, councils and railways specified it as infrastructure rather than transport. Alongside the high-mobility 437 line, the 405 kept the original 1948 thesis alive in contemporary form — one platform, endless tools. Wörth builds them still; the argument Albert Friedrich started has now outlasted every counter-argument by decades. The toolbox changed; the thesis never needed to. Airport winters and railway maintenance windows across Europe are scheduled around its availability. When a runway must reopen by dawn, somebody's procurement spreadsheet has already specified one of these.
