Origins

The E5 of 2021 aimed Weltmeister at the ride-hailing fleets: an electric saloon built to taxi-duty specification and pricing, chasing the volume channel that promised cash flow as private-market momentum stalled. The pivot told the financial story — fleet sales flatter volume but starve margin, and the company's mounting losses, failed listing attempts and dealer unrest were converging. Collapse followed in 2023, among the startup era's largest failures, stranding owners in software limbo that became a cautionary consumer tale. The E5 stands as the shakeout's representative artefact: a rational product from an irrational cash position, launched into arithmetic no product could solve. Its stranded owners became the sector's cautionary consumer story — software mortality made visible.
