Origins
The Haima 2 of 2009 brought the Hainan marque into the supermini class: a five-door hatch whose tidy dynamics and packaging showed the Mazda apprenticeship at its most useful, priced for first-car buyers in the island's mainland expansion. It competed in China's most crowded segment against every domestic and joint-venture badge, holding a modest, steady share on engineering repute. Export markets in the developing world took small volumes. The 2 typifies mid-period Haima: a genuinely decent car from a small independent, its ceiling set not by product but by the marketing mathematics of a market where advertising budgets compounded like interest. The car outlasted several better-funded rivals, which was its own quiet verdict on the fundamentals.
