Origins
Haima's 3 of 2007 marked the island company's declaration of independence: after years building Mazdas under the Hainan-Mazda venture, the firm launched this compact saloon as its own-brand flagship — Mazda-school engineering continued without the badge, on architecture the partnership had taught it. The name itself (hai for Hainan, ma from Mazda) wore the lineage openly. Against the joint ventures' marketing power the 3 competed on honest mechanicals and island-government patience. It established the pattern of Haima's independent era: technically respectable products, perpetually modest share, and a persistence that would carry the marque through pivots toward SUVs, EVs and eventually hydrogen experiments with its old teacher. Independence, it demonstrated, was an engineering problem the marketing budget had to solve.
