Origins

The 8S of 2019 was Haima's boldest SUV: sharp coupe-influenced styling, the company's new 1.6-litre turbo at a class-competitive 195 horsepower, and pricing pitched to undercut the domestic majors' compact crossovers. It arrived as the market contracted and consolidated — the cruellest possible timing for a small independent's relaunch. Sales stayed niche despite honest content, and Haima's strategic energy shifted toward electric contract work and hydrogen development with Toyota. The 8S stands as the marque's last conventional swing: a properly modern product proving the engineering had kept pace, released into a market that had stopped rewarding small-scale competence. The car deserved a bigger stage; the stage had stopped adding seats. The engineering deserved the compliment of competition on equal terms; the market's attention had moved on.
