Origins

Launched for 2001 as the International 4000 series, this was the product of Blue Diamond Truck — a joint venture between Navistar and Ford that let both companies share the cost of a medium-duty cab. The same basic structure appeared on Ford's F-650 and F-750 with different sheetmetal and different engines.

Design and engineering

Renamed DuraStar in the late 2000s, it covered Classes 5 through 7 in 4x2 and 6x4 form, doing the beverage-delivery, tow-truck and municipal work that keeps a medium-duty line profitable. Ford left the venture in 2009 and Navistar continued alone until 2018, when the MV series replaced it as part of a wholesale renaming of International's range. Two decades of school runs, box deliveries and utility fleets are its plain, sufficient monument.
