Origins

Navistar reached back into its own history for this one: TranStar had been International's premium highway tractor in the 1970s, and the name returned in 2002 on a conventional-cab tractor covering Classes 6 through 8. Power came from International's own HT570 alongside Caterpillar and Cummins diesels.

Design and engineering

It was a regional-haul and vocational machine rather than a long-distance flagship — that job fell to the ProStar and the LoneStar. Production ran to 2017, after which the RH series took over under International's simplified naming scheme. The badge's revival now spans generations of American highway freight, a quiet continuity few nameplates manage. Working names, revived honestly, carry more weight than invented ones — the TranStar's second career proved the rule.
