Origins

Introduced in 2008, the LoneStar was Navistar's attempt to sell aerodynamics without selling anonymity. The cab was developed in the wind tunnel, but the hood, fender line and headlight treatment were drawn with a clear reference to streamlined American trucks of the 1930s — a shape distinctive enough that owner-operators bought it for the look as much as for the fuel figures.

Design and engineering

Underneath it was conventional long-haul equipment: Cummins ISX15 and later X15 diesels, Navistar's own MaxxForce 13 in the early years, manual and automated-manual gearboxes up to eighteen speeds, and a choice of day cab or two sizes of sleeper. Built in Ohio, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand, it ran until 2023, by which point the newer LT series had taken over the volume.
