Origins

Slotted between the electric Cooper hatch and the Countryman, the Aceman is a five-door electric crossover and the first Mini designed from the start with no combustion version at all. It went on sale in 2024, built in China at the Spotlight Automotive joint venture with Great Wall Motor, and effectively takes over from the discontinued Clubman.

Design and engineering

Oliver Heilmer's design team stripped the interior back to a single round OLED display in the centre of the dash, with almost no other screens or physical clutter, and used knitted recycled fabric in place of leather. It is the clearest statement yet of what Mini thinks a small premium car should feel like now.

In production

Whether the model outlasts the current politics of Chinese-built cars in Europe is a separate question. Tariffs have complicated its business case since launch.
