Origins

The Enyaq, launched in November 2020, is Škoda's first purpose-built electric car — not a converted petrol model, but a mid-size SUV on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, with a rear motor and rear-wheel drive in most versions and dual motors and all-wheel drive in the 80X and RS. Styled by Omer Halilhodžić, Dalibor Pantůček and Sajdin Osmančević, it kept the brand's upright proportions rather than adopting the slippery, alien look most manufacturers reached for.

Design and engineering

Its industrial significance is that it is built at Mladá Boleslav, making it the first MEB vehicle assembled outside Germany and a substantial vote of confidence in the Czech operation. The Coupe body followed in February 2022, and a Cargo panel-van version was added for commercial buyers.

In production

Inside, Škoda applied its usual argument — more space, more storage, less money than the equivalent Volkswagen ID.4 with which it shares almost everything mechanically. The optional Crystal Face, a grille filled with illuminated vertical elements, gave it a distinguishing feature at night. A facelift in 2025 brought the sharper Modern Solid design language and improved range, and the Enyaq has been among the better-selling electric SUVs in Europe.
